Formal Professional Body Regsitration Process Implemented for Artisan/Trade Professionals in South Africa:

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation has recently published new Directives for the regsitration of foreign qualified artisans and Trade Professionals to be able to register with a formal Body designated by the Department on consultation with the Department of Home Affairs and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and other stakeholders.

The purpose of this establishment is to formally implement S 26 C of the Skills Development Act and aims to formally establish and maintain a Register of Artisans in South Africa. With the formal procedure finally in place after over a decade of trying to formalise this sector from an Immigration Perspective, applicants with foreign Trade qualifications can now much more easily apply for Critical Skills Work Visas from within SA or abroad as well as permanent Residency should they have 5 years worth of formal post qualification work experience in the relevant Trade.
